GLAZED WALL IN SUSSEX WOODLAND

Retro-fitted to Passivhaus standards and reconfigured to suit the owners' self-sufficient ethos.

We are delighted to announce that our East Sussex project, situated adjacent to ancient woodland, is nearing completion. This location, with its ancient woodland, presented both an invaluable asset and a unique challenge that inspired us to achieve the highest standards of energy efficiency and sustainability.

The clients aimed for maximum energy efficiency and sustainability, leading to a comprehensive refurbishment and extension. The existing structure was retrofitted to Passivhaus standards, ensuring exceptional thermal performance and energy efficiency. The new extension was constructed using a Structural Insulated Panel System (SIPS) for superior insulation and sustainability. To further reduce reliance on fossil fuels, solar panels, storage batteries, and an air source heat pump were integrated into the design.

With skilful design, we replaced an unattractive conservatory with a stunning extension that allows the owners to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. The designation of the site as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) required a sympathetic design approach to secure planning approval while optimizing the breathtaking views.

High-end materials are being installed both internally and externally, including a magnificent new kitchen. The basement has been thoughtfully developed to include a library, media room, and a downstairs studio apartment, providing versatile living spaces. On the top floor, each bedroom now features an ensuite, enhancing comfort and privacy for the couple.

The project is expected to be completed by mid-summer, and we look forward to seeing the owners enjoy their beautifully transformed home.
